Vintage ETERNA Swiss Automatic Bumper Watch 1940’s-50’s 31mm

Many people have heard of the company ETA, known for the best Swiss movements ever made, but the name “Eterna” is probably only known to vintage watch collectors. This is where the ETA that we know today was born.  ETA was originally the movement manufacturing division of Eterna.

The 1930s and 1940s marked significant advancements in Eterna’s automatic watch technology, leading to the development of the bumper movement. This mechanism, which utilized a semi-circular oscillating weight, was a precursor to the more advanced Eterna-Matic system introduced in 1948

Eterna gained fame with the introduction of the Kon Tiki watch in the 1950s, celebrating Thor Heyerdahl’s expedition. This model became iconic and solidified Eterna’s reputation in the watch industry.
