During World War II, the U.S. military sought reliable wristwatches for soldiers, Elgin stoped making civilian watches and produced these for the military and called them general purpus service watch with 15 Jewels. Elgin produced thousands of military wristwatches during the war, often marked with military specifications and serial numbers on the back of the cae. Unfortunatly the case back on this watch is not original. But valued by collectors for their historical significance and craftsmanship. This watch holds time and looks great after all these years. Dont worry, when you are wearing this, no one will see the back.
